Lesson 351: I am God’s Home

Today’s ACIM lesson begins Section #14, What Am I?  A Course in Miracles tells us repeatedly that each of us is “the Holy son of God Himself.”  Or as this section says, “I am God’s Son, complete and healed and whole, shining in the reflection of His Love. “  The whole purpose of mind-training is to remember this – to recognize that we are indeed precious and loved and deserving.  Lesson 351, “My sinless brother is my guide to peace. My sinful brother is my guide to pain. And which I choose to see I will behold,” begins by asking, Who is my brother but Your holy Son?”  We are all connected.  Not separate beings at all, but one – interdependent upon one another; connected in ways the ego mind cannot believe to fathom.  We study the Course so that we can learn to choose love over fear, choose compassion over condemnation.  It was only ever ourselves whom we condemned.  Seeing sin is a way of perpetuating the illusion of separation.  It is an excuse to continue listening to ego rather than the Holy Spirit, and we (I) feel guilty and bad about it because on some level we know that it is a lie; it is the denial of our heritage.  In truth, each of us is God’s home because none of us can be separated from God.

From last year’s writing:

lesson 351 A Course in Miracles

Guide to Peace

All “problems” stem from a belief that I am something I am not – separate from God.  I may have been raised to think I was a miserable sinner (and thinking of yourself as a sinner makes you miserable!), but part of the reason I so love the Course is that it makes me feel loved.  Not the way ego loves with specialness, but the way God loves – totally, unabashedly, passionately – full-throttle.  This lesson tells us, “I am the holy home of God Himself.  I am the Heaven where His Love resides.”   To think of oneself as such a sacred container automatically bathes one’s heart in Love Sublime.  I am not separate from God.  I am His home.

As I near the end of these lessons, I find myself wondering how I will proceed once I have completed them all.  Will I still write about the Course each day?  When the use for words is over, as this lesson promises it will soon be, will the world disappear?  Will my reality as I know it be no more?

Yet for now, I am still perched at choice.  That is how it is in duality: we are at choice; straddled between two thoughts systems, trying to learn to use the Holy Spirit’s as the default.  When there is only unity, the perception of a second thought system (ego’s) falls away.  It is seen for the illusion it is.

Projection makes perception.

“1 Projection makes perception. The world you see is what you gave it, nothing more than that. But though it is no more than that, it is not less. Therefore, to you it is important. It is the witness to your state of mind, the outside picture of an inward condition. As a man thinketh, so does he perceive. Therefore, seek not to change the world, but choose to change your mind about the world. Perception is a result and not a cause. And that is why order of difficulty in miracles is meaningless. Everything looked upon with vision is healed and holy. Nothing perceived without it means anything. And where there is no meaning, there is chaos.”

As we learned way back in Lesson 19: “Thinking and its results are really simultaneous, for cause and effect are never separate.”  In unity, how could they be separate? And recognizing this, it stands to reason that it is up to me to choose sinlessness and side with the Holy Spirit.  As this lesson tells us, “My sinless brother is my guide to peace. My sinful brother is my guide to pain. And which I choose to see I will behold.”

What I see is myself.  Am I so intent on denying myself my inheritance that I can’t see my own sinlessness?

Today’s lesson:

Lesson 351

Section 14. What Am I?

I am God’s Son, complete and healed and whole, shining in the reflection of His Love. In me is His creation sanctified and guaranteed eternal life. In me is love perfected, fear impossible, and joy established without opposite. I am the holy home of God Himself. I am the Heaven where His Love resides. I am His holy Sinlessness Itself, for in my purity abides His Own.

Our use for words is almost over now. Yet in the final days of this one year we gave to God together, you and I, we found a single purpose that we shared. And thus you joined with me, so what I am are you as well. The truth of what we are is not for words to speak of nor describe. Yet we can realize our function here, and words can speak of this and teach it, too, if we exemplify the words in us.

We are the bringers of salvation. We accept our part as saviors of the world, which through our joint forgiveness is redeemed. And this, our gift, is therefore given us. We look on everyone as brother, and perceive all things as kindly and as good. We do not seek a function that is past the gate of Heaven. Knowledge will return when we have done our part. We are concerned only with giving welcome to the truth.

Ours are the eyes through which Christ’s vision sees a world redeemed from every thought of sin. Ours are the ears that hear the Voice for God proclaim the world as sinless. Ours the minds that join together as we bless the world. And from the oneness that we have attained we call to all our brothers, asking them to share our peace and consummate our joy.

We are the holy messengers of God who speak for Him, and carrying His Word to everyone whom He has sent to us, we learn that it is written on our hearts. And thus our minds are changed about the aim for which we came, and which we seek to serve. We bring glad tidings to the Son of God, who thought he suffered. Now is he redeemed. And as he sees the gate of Heaven stand open before him, he will enter in and disappear into the Heart of God.

Lesson 351

My sinless brother is my guide to peace.
My sinful brother is my guide to pain.
And which I choose to see I will behold.

Who is my brother but Your holy Son? And if I see him sinful I proclaim myself a sinner, not a Son of God; alone and friendless in a fearful world. Yet this perception is a choice I make, and can relinquish. I can also see my brother sinless, as Your holy Son. And with this choice I see my sinlessness, my everlasting Comforter and Friend beside me, and my way secure and clear. Choose, then, for me, my Father, through Your Voice. For He alone gives judgment in Your Name.

It always comes back to this: which Voice do I want to listen to?  Am I awake enough to remember that I am constantly choosing?  In Chapter 30: The New Beginning, Jesus says, “1Decisions are continuous. You do not always know when you are making them. But with a little practice with the ones you recognize, a set begins to form which sees you through the rest. It is not wise to let yourself become preoccupied with every step you take. The proper set, adopted consciously each time you wake, will put you well ahead. And if you find resistance strong and dedication weak, you are not ready. Do not fight yourself. But think about the kind of day you want, and tell yourself there is a way in which this very day can happen just like that. Then try again to have the day you want.”

The goal for peace is properly set at the beginning.  “2 In any situation in which you are uncertain, the first thing to consider, very simply, is “What do I want to come of this? What is it for?” The clarification of the goal belongs at the beginning, for it is this which will determine the outcome.”

So the question is: do I want to see sinless brother or a sinful one?  Do I want to claim my own innocence or stay stuck in condemnation?

Choose again.  If I seem to have messed up, choose again.  I can’t really make a mistake, but I can dapple in the illusion of separation for as long as I care to make myself miserable.  Yet miracles are my birthright.  They are always available for the asking, even if they aren’t under my conscious control. (“5 Miracles are habits, and should be involuntary. They should not be under conscious control. Consciously selected miracles can be misguided.”)

“5 Whatever lies you may believe are of no concern to the miracle, which can heal any of them with equal ease. It makes no distinctions among misperceptions. Its sole concern is to distinguish between truth on the one hand, and error on the other. Some miracles may seem to be of greater magnitude than others. But remember the first principle in this course; there is no order of difficulty in miracles. In reality you are perfectly unaffected by all expressions of lack of love. These can be from yourself and others, from yourself to others, or from others to you. Peace is an attribute in you. You cannot find it outside. Illness is some form of external searching. Health is inner peace. It enables you to remain unshaken by lack of love from without and capable, through your acceptance of miracles, of correcting the conditions proceeding from lack of love in others.”

I am God’s home.  I am a teacher for God.  I don’t know what I am supposed to be doing or where I am supposed to go, but I am learning how to listen.  “I make no decisions by myself.”  How could I? “ I do not know what anything is for.”

The Course says our “problem” is we decide what we think things are for and then do the asking, “3 This is your major problem now. You still make up your mind, and then decide to ask what you should do.”  In other words we filter the problems through the ego thought system and then ask for help, which is a fancy way of saying that we are trying to make the error real.

None of that can make the error real.  I can make things up all day long, see my brother as sinful, make myself miserable, choose hell over Heaven and not one bit of it will change the changeless.

I am God’s home. “ I am the holy Son of God Himself.“ I am God’s Son, complete and healed and whole, shining in the reflection of His Love.”

Now, if I could just remember that all the time, life would indeed be Heaven.

Namaste, my friends, Namaste.
