Today’s ACIM lesson, #326,I am forever an Effect of God illustrates perfectly why we (I) resist listening to the Holy Spirit and move forward as the miserable separated “self” (small “s”) that I think I am for it is asking us to allow the world to disappear. Now, a lot of days, that seems like it might be preferable to the insanity we (I) witness on TV. But the truth is it’s a little terrifying to let go of the idea of separation. Yet, the “battle” we (I) rage between my true self (the holy Son of God Himself) and the image I made (ego/idol) is the drama of daily life. It seems quite real. But A Couse in Miracles tells us, “Yet if he could but realize the war is between real and unreal powers, he could look upon himself and see his freedom.” Do I want freedom, or am I so enamored with illusion that I prefer to continue to suffer? The Course says, “Love cannot suffer, because it cannot attack. The remembrance of love therefore brings invulnerability with it.” Today’s lesson teaches us that — we (I) are (am) not (a) separated being(s) but the Effect(s) of God. Connected. Love. We are love! And today’s lesson tells us to recognize that and BE that. “…it is Your Will to have a Son so like his Cause that Cause and Its Effect are indistinguishable.”
From last year’s writing:
Most of us don’t go around thinking of ourselves as “an Effect of God;” or at least, I don’t. There probably aren’t that many people thinking that God caused them to come into existence in the first place, and even though the Course repeatedly says, “I am as God created me,” I’m betting that most of us don’t go around thinking I am forever an Effect of God; which is the very “problem” from a Course perspective. We believe we are separate beings; we believe we have our own thoughts and ideas and lives that have little to do with God.
This is what the Course calls illusion.
Earlier today, I was having a discussion with a Course student of mine who was lamenting the flow of cash into his life. (I know! Why would you complain about that?) He told me it had been a while since he had any real money and that it was making him worry because it meant life was about to get a lot more complicated.
I reminded him that worry is negative prayer and that it would be in his best interest to “stop that shit!”
“I know. I know,” he told me. He complained that God doesn’t seem to recognize that negative thoughts aren’t requests for the bad stuff to happen. From a Science of Mind perspective, God is Love and Law and the Law, being absolute, only knows to say “yes.” God doesn’t judge; He just goes along with whatever it is we want to create.(“God does not judge His guiltless Son.”) Of course, it helps to remember that only the Love is real, so if we are creating misery for ourselves, it’s our gig, not God’s. “Yet if he could but realize the war is between real and unreal powers, he could look upon himself and see his freedom.”
It’s crazy how we torment ourselves.
Today’s lesson is the reminder that we are NOT separate from God. We are this holy Thought that never left the Mind of God and all the ideas we have that appear to be unlike the Father are not even real. It’s a dream we are having where we play at being something we could never really be – a separated one. As we were reminded back in Lesson 41, God goes with me wherever I go. The idea that we could somehow venture out on our own is utter nonsense.
“2 The separated ones have invented many “cures” for what they believe to be “the ills of the world.” But the one thing they do not do is to question the reality of the problem. Yet its effects cannot be cured because the problem is not real. The idea for today has the power to end all this foolishness forever. And foolishness it is, despite the serious and tragic forms it may take.”
Today’s lesson is yet another way of trying to drill this Truth through our thick heads.
I am forever an Effect of God.
Father, I was created in Your Mind, a holy Thought that never left its home. I am forever Your Effect, and You forever and forever are my Cause. As You created me I have remained. Where You established me I still abide. And all Your attributes abide in me, because it is Your Will to have a Son so like his Cause that Cause and Its Effect are indistinguishable. Let me know that I am an Effect of God, and so I have the power to create like You. And as it is in Heaven, so on earth. Your plan I follow here, and at the end I know that You will gather Your effects into the tranquil Heaven of Your Love, where earth will vanish, and all separate thoughts unite in glory as the Son of God.
Let us today behold earth disappear, at first transformed, and then, forgiven, fade entirely into God’s holy Will.

So, as I practice turning everything over to the Holy Spirit. I remind myself that I am forever an Effect of God and as such, I am a powerful being. “Let me know that I am an Effect of God, and so I have the power to create like You.” But because God does not condemn or judge, I have the free will to miscreate illusion, so it’s important for me to remember who I am. It’s important to stay in the awareness of my goodness, of my holiness, of the light within me that came here to shine.
I am here to awaken, to remember who I really am. I cannot be a separated one because it is not God’s will for me to be lost.
So I practice forgiveness for all the moments when I forget the Truth. And then I give thanks.
Because the game is rigged, folks. We can’t screw it up. There is nothing we can do to make the separation real.
Namaste, my friends, Namaste.
