Today’s ACIM lesson, #300, Only an instant does this world endure, is about distinguishing between the eternal and the ephemeral, truth and illusion, love and fear. Only the love matters because only the love is real. All attempts to create separation, reinforce conflict and create levels are exercises in futility and a gateway into misery. We are not victims of the world we see. All of that will pass away. Beneath the pulse of anxiety, God’s Peace lies, sure and steady, calm and comforting. Beyond projections, Heaven waits certain of the holy world God has for us. Once we let go of trying to prove our superiority, once we care only about love, all that messiness falls away.

Only the love is real. I repeat that a lot; it helps return my focus to what’s important, and let go of artificial values. With the passage of time, it no longer matters who won the game, who had the fastest car or the shiniest bauble. As Maya Angelou said, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Only the love matters.
Today’s lesson, the last in the series of “What is the Real World,” is about recognizing what matters. Within the realm of this world where we think we are separate from one another and the ego rules, petty bullshit seems to matter. Ego has a totally different idea about what’s important because its primary goal is to maintain the illusion of separation. “1 Any split in mind must involve a rejection of part of it, and this is the belief in separation. The wholeness of God, which is His peace, cannot be appreciated except by a whole mind that recognizes the wholeness of God’s creation. By this recognition it knows its Creator. Exclusion and separation are synonymous, as are separation and dissociation.”
It suddenly becomes obvious to me that anything that excludes is an ego gambit. It’s an attempt to prove superiority. “ …Projection will always hurt you. It reinforces your belief in your own split mind, and its only purpose is to keep the separation going. It is solely a device of the ego to make you feel different from your brothers and separated from them. The ego justifies this on the grounds that it makes you seem “better” than they are, thus obscuring your equality with them still further.”
Until this moment, I never realizes that the mission to be inclusive was a mission from God. Only the love is real.
“ Projection and attack are inevitably related, because projection is always a means of justifying attack. Anger without projection is impossible. The ego uses projection only to destroy your perception of both yourself and your brothers. The process begins by excluding something that exists in you but which you do not want, and leads directly to excluding you from your brothers.”
Is it weird that I am suddenly thinking that noticing excludsion is a good barometer for accessing political candidates? Is it even weirder that I immediately notice that even doing that is an attempt to exclude and make one “better than” the other?
Only the love is real.
Only an instant does this world endure.
This is a thought which can be used to say that death and sorrow are the certain lot of all who come here, for their joys are gone before they are possessed, or even grasped. Yet this is also the idea that lets no false perception keep us in its hold, nor represent more than a passing cloud upon a sky eternally serene. And it is this serenity we seek, unclouded, obvious and sure, today.
We seek Your holy world today. For we, Your loving Sons, have lost our way a while. But we have listened to Your Voice, and learned exactly what to do to be restored to Heaven and our true Identity. And we give thanks today the world endures but for an instant. We would go beyond that tiny instant to eternity.

“Death and sorrow are the certain lot of all who come here.” None of us escape this experience without sorrows in our lives, with death as the outcome. But only the love is real. The dream of separation is all that falls away. In the end, I am as God created me.
Any attempts to exclude are attempts to make separation real. Us and them. You and me. Such ideas are attempts to tear us apart rather than bring us together. None of it has anything to do with our real identity (not identities –it’s one). The eternal is changeless.
Only the love is real. It’s all that matters.
