Today’s ACIM lesson, #299, Eternal holiness abides in me, is the recognition of who and what I really am which means who and what you really are; what everyone really is. It is the recognition of innocence, for holiness is purity. It is not about perception. Perceptions are skewed by ego because we live in a world of levels, where there seem to be choices. “7 In this world the only remaining freedom is the freedom of choice; always between two choices or two voices. Will is not involved in perception at any level, and has nothing to do with choice. Consciousness is the receptive mechanism, receiving messages from above or below; from the Holy Spirit or the ego. Consciousness has levels and awareness can shift quite dramatically, but it cannot transcend the perceptual realm. At its highest it becomes aware of the real world, and can be trained to do so increasingly. Yet the very fact that it has levels and can be trained demonstrates that it cannot reach knowledge.”
Only the love is real which means only the love matters. Learning to recognize that simplifies life.
So today, we remember that holiness abides within everyone and that the easiest way to experience that is to remember that we are only real to remember the truth of who and what we are and we ALL are that. (“Healing and Atonement are not related; they are identical. There is no order of difficulty in miracles because there are no degrees of Atonement.”)
From last year’s writing:
A Course in Miracles talks a lot about holiness. What exactly is holiness? The KJV dictionary says “HO’LINESS, n. from holy. The state of being holy; purity or integrity of moral character; freedom from sin; sanctity. Applied to the Supreme Being, holiness denotes perfect purity or integrity of moral character, one of his essential attributes.” The Course says it is “a world forgiven” (which cannot last, as in we then have no use for bodies). I, personally, think of it as reverence, a state of sacredness. Today’s lesson is a call to that. It says that “My holiness is far beyond my own ability to understand or know,” as in, I can’t fully grasp what that means, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t there because God created it and what God created is eternal. But despite that I can’t fully grasp the enormity of what that means, rest assured that it’s important.
In the section called “II. The Power of Holiness” the Course says that, “ it must include everyone to be holy. “ Holiness does not exclude, which makes sense since there is but One Son and the Atonement (At-one-ment) is the healing of the idea of separation. (“1 Healing and Atonement are not related; they are identical. There is no order of difficulty in miracles because there are no degrees of Atonement.”)
Today’s lesson brings us one step closer to recognizing who and what we are. One step closer to recognizing that what is true of me, is true of everyone.
Eternal holiness abides in me.
My holiness is far beyond my own ability to understand or know. Yet God, my Father, Who created it, acknowledges my holiness as His. Our Will, together, understands it. And Our Will, together, knows that it is so.
Father, my holiness is not of me. It is not mine to be destroyed by sin. It is not mine to suffer from attack. Illusions can obscure it, but can not put out its radiance, nor dim its light. It stands forever perfect and untouched. In it are all things healed, for they remain as You created them. And I can know my holiness. For Holiness Itself created me, and I can know my Source because it is Your Will that You be known.

“Holiness Itself created me, and I can know my Source because it is Your Will that You be known.”
Last night’s ACIM group focused the entire evening on levels and specialness and what “does not matter.” “4 Recognize what does not matter, and if your brothers ask you for something “outrageous,” do it because it does not matter. Refuse, and your opposition establishes that it does matter to you. It is only you, therefore, who have made the request outrageous, and every request of a brother is for you.”
It is only our judgment that a request is “”outrageous” that makes it matter. “2 Suppose a brother insists on having you do something you think you do not want to do. His very insistence should tell you that he believes salvation lies in it. If you insist on refusing and experience a quick response of opposition, you are believing that your salvation lies in not doing it. You, then, are making the same mistake he is, and are making his error real to both of you. Insistence means investment, and what you invest in is always related to your notion of salvation. The question is always twofold; first, what is to be saved? And second, how can it be saved?”
Only the love is real. We are choosing between reality and illusion.
In a sense, none of it matters. But because we live in duality where we have choices – the choice between which voice to listen to, that of the ego or that of the Holy Spirit – it does matter. I personally prefer to live in Heaven rather than hell. I like a peaceful life. I like teaching love. I like my life to work.
But that’s not permission to exclude. In fact, it’s the exact opposite – because the Atonement is healing, it is totally inclusive. This is A Course in Miracles. “4 All miracles mean life, and God is the Giver of life. His Voice will direct you very specifically. You will be told all you need to know.
My job is to teach love, but since “I do not know what anything is for” I don’t choose any of it without checking in with the Holy Spirit.
As long as we remain in this construct, choice exists. The choice is between “reality” and “illusion.” Between love and fear. Which voice are we listening to?
In a sense, it doesn’t matter who are partners are, or what job we have. Changing the externals won’t solve the “problems,” because the solutions aren’t “out there.” I have to do the work on myself.
It’s about consciousness. It’s about the evolution of the sole; about waking up.
So, the game is rigged, and within the “dream,” this construct, it is impossible to fully grasp knowledge. We live in levels, but we can be trained to “become aware of the real world.” Our job is to see the holiness that is always there. The holiness is eternal.
And I’m here to tell you, that my personal experience is that during the few moments when I glimpse that “real world,” I walk around feeling high and I know that only the love is real.
Namaste, my friends, Namaste.
