Today’s ACIM lesson, #277, Let me not bind Your Son with laws I made, is an invitation to go beyond what I think is possible. It is why lesson #25 (I do not know what anything is for) is one I have to revisit daily – because as soon as I think I know, I’ve eliminated all sorts of possibilities. I’ve limited myself to conventional thinking because I think I know better. Last night, in our ACIM group, I recounted the story of Cliff Young (though at the moment, I couldn’t remember his name last night – only that he was an Australian farmer). This 61-year old potato farmer won an Ultramarathon and created what became known as the “Young shuffle” because he trudged along while other runners slept and consequently won the race. “In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert’s mind there are few.” — Shunryu Suzuki. From last year’s writing, here’s is the invitation to dabble in the infinite:
Life happens. I knew yesterday that I would be out straight all day. I have a workshop I am helping my boss to facilitate today (real estate investing). Pulling it together has definitely pushed the boundaries of being in form. I was exhausted by the time I got home last night (after 7). So, (my) yesterday’s lesson never made into a blog post. Life. Today, I am going to attempt a write something before I have to scoot out the door in less than an hour. Perhaps it is a really good day accept the invitation found in this Course in Miracles lesson: Let me not bind Your Son with laws I made.
Let me not bind Your Son with laws I made.
Your Son is free, my Father. Let me not imagine I have bound him with the laws I made to rule the body. He is not subject to any laws I made by which I try to make the body more secure. He is not changed by what is changeable. He is not slave to any laws of time. He is as You created him, because he knows no law except the law of love.
Let us not worship idols, nor believe in any law idolatry would make to hide the freedom of the Son of God. He is not bound except by his beliefs. Yet what he is, is far beyond his faith in slavery or freedom. He is free because he is his Father’s Son. And he cannot be bound unless God’s truth can lie, and God can will that He deceive Himself.

This lesson is an invitation to innocence. It is an invitation to see myself and others as God created us. It is an invitation to extend love, to awaken to miracles. There is no order of difficulty in miracles. It is how the Course begins: “1 There is no order of difficulty in miracles. One is not “harder” or “bigger” than another. They are all the same. All expressions of love are maximal.”
Oddly, even though I slept badly, and I still feel uncertain about how this workshop will play out exactly (I still haven’t printed the agenda that is floating around in my head), I am relatively calm. I just feel like I’m letting God lead me and so I will be alright. I am not teaching the workshop, just trying to help the participants learn what my boss is trying to teach them. She is hard to keep up with and a little intimidating so I have to slow her down a little for folks to wrap their heads around the information.
Fortunately, we are both very God-led. In the end, we are there to teach love. We are trying to make all of this a win-win situation.
I think the main thing to remember is that each and every person present is God-expressing and my job is to see beyond the limitations I would put upon them. My job is to see each as God created them. We are not separate. I have no place judging anyone. My opinions are laws I would use to bind them.
This is hard for humans to accept. In form, we see limitation, especially when it comes to money matters. You cannot be mindless of how much you are spending to remodel a house or you won’t make any money.
It comes back to who are you listening to – ego or the Holy Spirit and what are you teaching: fear or love. “Those who communicate fear are promoting attack, and attack always breaks communication, making it impossible. Egos do join together in temporary allegiance, but always for what each one can get separately. The Holy Spirit communicates only what each one can give to all. He never takes anything back, because He wants you to keep it. Therefore, His teaching begins with the lesson:
It’s an invitation to faith, to trusting that even though I do not know what anything is for I am connected to One who does.
And that, my friends, makes everything a whole lot easier.
Namaste, my friends, Namaste.
