Lesson 216 from A Course in Miracles: this post from last year is the reminder that everything I do, I do to myself – that whatever I give, I receive; so be kind. As the Manual for Teachers says, “The teacher of God is generous out of Self interest.”

to say God wants you to be happy is a projection

God Just Loves You

So I am standing outside on the street, erecting a lead-in sign for one of my listings because it’s sort of hidden away and we figured it might be helpful to point out, “Hey, property for sale, this way.” It was just a cheap cardboard sign.  There’s a good chance it will disappear.  Albuquerque has a sign ordinance so it’s someone’s job to collect and dispose of signs; thus the cheapie.  The sign wasn’t up five minutes when one of the residents of the condos that are in front of the townhouse told me that it was likely management would chuck the damned thing.  My seller, who was standing next to me, commented on how people just love to get in your business.  “Mike,” I hold him.  “It’s human nature.  If I’m busy worrying about what you should be doing, I’ll distract myself from my own shit.”

In our Tuesday night group a few days ago, we discussed the folly of “helping” other people.  Not to say that if someone needs our help we shouldn’t give it, but how often in the course of a day do we find ourselves full of advice for what other people “should” be doing.  We can see the list of shit they’re doing wrong and we have wonderful life advice for them.

“Allow me to tell you how fucked up you are and what you should be doing instead.”

First, we judge, then we think ourselves superior, and then we give unsolicited advice.

Which sheds no light whatsoever on who they are but it sure shines a light on what I need to work on.

Ouch.

Today’s review lesson is about that, about recognizing that whatever I do, I do to myself.  If God has but One Son and I am it, then the only person in need of fixing is me.

AND, I don’t need fixing.  Saving perhaps from my misperceptions but not fixing.

Today’s lesson:

Lesson 216

I am not a body. I am free.
For I am still as God created me.

(196) It can be but myself I crucify.

All that I do I do unto myself. If I attack, I suffer.
But if I forgive, salvation will be given me.

I am not a body. I am free.
For I am still as God created me.

Earlier, I read this in The Voice For Love: Accessing Your Inner Voice to Fulfill Your Life’s Purpose  by DavidPaul Doiyle (still free on Kindle as of this writing: do yourself a favor and download it!): “Even to say that God wants your happiness is a projection. You want your happiness. You think that may come from a connection with God, so it is projected onto God, ‘God wants my happiness and that can be achieved through a connection between the two of us. And God will be happy if there is a connection between the two of us.’ However, in Reality, God just loves you. Wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, whatever you’re thinking, whatever you believe, God just loves you. God hasn’t gone anywhere and neither have you. There are just a few beliefs and thoughts between you and God. That’s all.”*

I’m the one judging the value of what is.  Not God.  Me.  God is perfectly content with me as I am.  It is only because I think I am something I am not (separated from God) that I have any “issues” at all.

I can’t do anything to other people.  What I am doing, I am doing to myself.  That’s call karma is the popular way of thinking.  The Course would have us learn this lesson: “It can be but myself I crucify.”

“3 If your brothers are part of you, will you accept them? Only they can teach you what you are, for your learning is the result of what you taught them. What you call upon in them you call upon in yourself. And as you call upon it in them it becomes real to you. God has but one Son, knowing them all as one. Only God Himself is more than they but they are not less than He is. Would you know what this means? If what you do to my brother you do to me, and if you do everything for yourself because we are part of you, everything we do belongs to you as well. Everyone God created is part of you and shares His glory with you. His Glory belongs to Him, but it is equally yours. You cannot, then, be less glorious than He is.”

God just loves you.  God just loves me.  I don’t need to become better, although of course, I want to become better, but I do that through other people.  I do that through love and acceptance.  Not by telling you all the shit you’re doing wrong, but by loving you where you are, just as God loves you (and me) where we are.

That includes loving the guy who tells me “they” are probably going to rip down my sign.

It’s something to think about.

Namaste, my friends, Namaste.
