Funny, I awoke this morning knowing this: Love is happiness and God is Love.

God, being Love, is also happiness.

Love is Happiness

Love is happiness.  I never really thought about it in those terms before but that is really what today’s A Course in Miracles lesson is teaching: God, being Love, is also happiness. Love is happiness.  It is happiness, isn’t it?  You can’t feel love for someone or something without feeling happy.  And don’t give me that argument that says, “What about when you lose someone you love? That’s not happiness – that’s heartache.”  You aren’t feeling the love in those moments, you are feeling the lack of it, and yes, to experience the lack makes the heart ache with longing.  God, being Love is also happiness. That’s the ticket back to wholeness. That’s the ticket back to eclipsing the ache.  Only the love is real.  To focus on lack is to catapult yourself into fear: fear that love will never find you again; fear that the lack is the truth.

But Love is all around you.  God never left.  You can’t separate yourself from God.  You are part of Him. Just saying.

Anyway, I love knowing that love is happiness.  I love knowing it because it explains so much.  It explains why people who don’t have love in their lives seem so unhappy.  It explains why gratitude is an easy path back to love and happiness.  It explains why tenderness comes in to caress and relax you when you focus your thoughts on trusting that God has your back.  Fear takes a hike.  God, being Love, is also happiness.  It’s like the secret to living a happy life.  It like a joy-shortcut.

If I know that God is a loving God, if I know that happiness is my birthright, if I know that love is happiness – Wow!  I know how to be there, in my happy place, in a heartbeat.  I just breathe into love.  I just relax into trust.  I remember that God is Love and God is happiness.  I love this lesson!

And love is happiness!

Here it is – short, sweet and easy:

Lesson 103

God, being Love, is also happiness.

Happiness is an attribute of love. It cannot be apart from it. Nor can it be experienced where love is not. Love has no limits, being everywhere. And therefore joy is everywhere as well. Yet can the mind deny that this is so, believing there are gaps in love where sin can enter, bringing pain instead of joy. This strange belief would limit happiness by redefining love as limited, and introducing opposition in what has no limit and no opposite.

Fear is associated then with love, and its results become the heritage of minds that think what they have made is real. These images, with no reality in truth, bear witness to the fear of God, forgetting being Love, He must be joy. This basic error we will try again to bring to truth today, and teach ourselves:

God, being Love, is also happiness.
To fear Him is to be afraid of joy.

Begin your periods of practicing today with this association, which corrects the false belief that God is fear. It also emphasizes happiness belongs to you, because of what He is.

Allow this one correction to be placed within your mind each waking hour today. Then welcome all the happiness it brings as truth replaces fear, and joy becomes what you expect to take the place of pain. God, being Love, it will be given you. Bolster this expectation frequently throughout the day, and quiet all your fears with this assurance, kind and wholly true:

God, being Love, is also happiness.
And it is happiness I seek today.
I cannot fail, because I seek the truth.

So today, I allow truth to replace fear.  I allow happiness to be mine.  When I find myself creeping towards unhappiness, when I find dissatisfaction pounding on my door, I “turn toward the light” (“for the little spark within you in part of a Light so great that it can sweep you out of all darkness forever. For your Father is your Creator, and you are like Him.”).   I turn to God, I call on the Holy Spirit.  I remember to love what is.  I don’t question it.  I don’t think I know better.  (“I do not know what anything is for” after all!)  I just trust that God is Love and that Love would never forsake me.

Love is the answer.  God, being Love, is also happiness.  Love is happiness.

It is so deceptively simple.  Choose love.  Choose God. God, being Love, is also happiness.

Namaste, my friends, Namaste.
